Since India-born Sundar Pichai became the Google CEO among many other speculations one of the most interest generating was naming ways of its Android versions. Why should be names based upon only western sweets? Why not Indian sweets’ names be included or for that matter from any other country? Jellybean, Kitkat, Lollipop and now Marshmallow. The naming style is really controversial. However, Google may soon give up such an idea and may come up with an interesting alternative.

During his recent short trip to India, Sundar Pichai faced an interesting video question while he was interacting with students from Sri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi. The question was about Google’s style of naming its Android versions. Pichai said that Google is planning to hold an online poll to select a name before launching their future Android versions. Nonetheless to say that this will also prove to be an exciting marketing method.

Why not Narkel Naru in place of Nougat?

It’s decided that the version name will start with alphabet ‘N’. So will it be Android Nougat or Android Narkel Naru or for a variation Android Nankathai? Expected date of release of this latest version codenamed Android N is 2016. Group of Redditors has suggested names from Nougat or Nutella to Nilla or Nerds.

According to ‘DryZebra’ above mentioned suggestions hold lots of credits as very few non-trademarked words start with N.

Unfortunately, there are very few dessert names in India starting with N and some among them are Neyyapam, Narkel Naru or Nankathai.

Open to Suggestions

The video questioner asked, “Why do we still not have Indian desserts as Android names?” Smiling Pichai answered, “When I meet my Mom I’ll ask her for suggestions.”

While he agreed to seriously think about holding an online suggestion poll he said that he was never a fan of sweets in his younger days. He recounted a childhood incident when he mixed ‘sambhar’, a lentil dish, with ‘payasam’, rice pudding dessert, so that ‘it didn’t taste that sweet’.

Breaking the Stereotypes

According to Pichai there is an urgent need to grow students innate qualities rather than, forcing them to take up some stereotype profession. Software development has many avenues and to be successful there is no need to run away to USA and develop your career.
